Shihan Murray Simpson
Murray Simpson Shihan is a direct student of Kiichi Nakamoto Hanshi.
Murray Simpson Shihan regularly travels to Okinawa to train under Kiichi Nakamoto Hanshi to continue to learn and increase his knowledge in Goju Ryu Karate and Ryukyu Kobujutsu. He is focused on promoting and preserving these traditional Okinawan martial arts.
In April 2018 Murray Simpson Shihan was graded to 6th Dan in Goju Ryu Karate-do by Kiichi Nakamoto Hanshi.
Murray Simpson Shihan started practicing karate in 1984 in Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate-do under Bob Cahill Sensei in Dunedin, New Zealand. In 1986 he was graded Sho Dan by Morio Higoanna Sensei.
In October 2004 Murray Simpson Shihan opened his own dojo in Remuera Auckland at the local school, Victoria Avenue Primary School, Remuera, Auckland, New Zealand.
In March 2015 Murray Simpson Shihan moved his dojo to its current location, gymnasium of the old Queen Victoria School which had been closed for sometime. The entrance is off Papahia Street, Parnell, Auckland. The dojo training area is approximately 250 m2 area that is fully matted and equipped with a combination of tradition and modern training equipment.
